🚸 AbbeySNT Supporting Safe Haven Trials at Akaal School 🚸

Abbey Safer Neighbourhood Team have been out assisting Derby City Council and staff at Akaal Primary School as they carry out trial runs for a School Safe Haven outside the school. We’ll be supporting them again on 6th February at the same time.

A School Safe Haven (also known as a School Street) is a designated area where the roads directly outside a school are temporarily closed to most motor vehicles during the busiest times of the day—typically 8:15–8:45 AM and 3:00–3:45 PM.

These schemes are introduced by local councils to:
🚶‍♀️ Reduce congestion and dangerous parking
🌿 Improve air quality
🚴 Encourage walking and cycling
🧒 Create a safer space for children travelling to and from school

Access is still permitted for residents and emergency vehicles, but through‑traffic is restricted to create a safer, calmer environment.
